2011 – According to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) report released March 22, 2011, the inventory of hops held by growers, dealers, and brewers as of March 1st, 2011 totaled 109 million pounds, a new record high for the U.S. The current inventory of hops surpasses the previous record of 102 million lbs. reported last year on March 1st, 2010.

Inventory held by brewers was up 15%, totaling 54 million pounds. Stocks held by dealers and growers remained unchanged from the previous year and totaled 55 million pounds. Overall, this is a 6.8% increase from the March 1, 20010 stocks.

Additional 2011 Hops Production Information:

  • Washington State is forecast to harvest 23,368 acres of hops in 2011 (81% of the total harvested in the Pacific Northwest), down 4% from 2010.
  • The USDA Hops Production Forecast for the Pacific Northwest as of June 1st, 2011 totals 30,016 acres. This is down from 31,289 acres in 2010, 39,726 acres in 2009, and 40,898 acres in 2008.
  • The three most planted varieties in the Pacific Northwest are Zeus (4,121 ac), Columbus/TomahawkR (3,045 ac), and Nugget (2,299 ac).
  • Idaho acreage for 2011 is similar to 2010 at 2,288 ac; while Oregon is down by 6% to 4,360 ac; and Washington is down by 7% to 4,787 ac.
