Point Lookout American Flag and MountainsOld Fort – May 18, 2019, 9 a.m.

N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell County Center Keep McDowell Beautiful Program will be hosting a hike on the Point Lookout Trail in conjunction with the Old Fort Community Forum. Participants will receive training in Leave No Trace principles and a lesson on best practices for front country hiking. The hike will begin at 9 a.m. at the Old Fort trailhead on Old Highway 70 in Old Fort. The hike will be conducted at an easy pace and is approximately 5 miles round trip. Hiking is an easy way for families to get exercise and enjoy nature. This hike is open to the public and families are encouraged to attend. Participants will need to wear close-toed shoes, and should wear clothing appropriate for the weather like a sweat shirt or light rain jacket.
